What features would you like to see added to a future version of DataCAD?

The following assumes wood frame construction, but other construction types would have similar considerations.

1. When it comes to building a virtual model, I would assume a wall would be measured from the bottom of the sole plate to top of the top plate. Barring unusual conditions, that would leave the floor thickness “zone” from the bottom of the joist to the top of the subfloor, putting the finished floor above the designated floor “zone” and the finished ceiling below the designated floor “zone”.

2. There might be two options for ceilings:
a. one for a continuous ceiling attached to the floor, that could be toggled on or off, and that could have “clean to walls” toggled on or off (for an accurate section cut view).
b. another for ceilings in delimited areas, with an offset from the finished floor below.

3. Perhaps floor and ceiling finishes would be inserted with a contour search, since either could vary from room to room.

4. Edges at the perimeter and at voids need to know they are edges. At the perimeter, the smart floor should know where the edge of framing is (outside of rim joist, for example, which would have the same control line as the face of framing in the wall below), and what the offset is to the face of the exterior siding. This would also apply to cutouts for stairs, etc.

5. It would be very nice to have something similar to the zone system in DCPlus, where groups of layers can be locked into a default z-base/height (which could be overridden), and they would automatically detect changes in the adjoining sub-system. For example, if you have to change the floor system TJIs from 9.5” to 11.875”, everything above or below would adjust. In this scenario I assume there would be a designated z elevation that would remain fixed, and things would move relative to that fixed plane.
