I'm not sure if this is news or not, but I have not noticed a similar post. Autodesk has released a dwg viewer and printer called dwg TrueView which you can download from their fortress, er, website for free. At least in the monetary sense...

I have been using it for a while now. Yesterday I received a dwg from a civil engineer and opening it in TrueView yielded an error box telling me about Object Enablers and that I had to get one from the AutoDesk web site to show the proxy objects. I have BEEN THERE - DONE THAT, with no sucess in enabling those objects.

The dwg came in without the buildings and curbs which were supposed to be shown. DataCAD opened it just fine and the buildings and curbs were there.
