We are fairly new to the 3d game. We are an architectural firm. We are preparing a 3d model for presentation of a church. I can't figure out how to get trim arched and shaded on my o2c model? Typically for trim or band boards I use a slab and color map it thru rendering settings for the desired 3d color. Also what about gothic style arches for trim or gothic top windows? Maybe I don't have the full program? Working from Datacad 12 w/out any add-ons or extras. Is there a more complete library of 3d items? Like trees, bushes, specialty windows and doors etc... Currently we have basic standard 3d window and door styles/configurations, no 3d trees and no 3d bushes etc. in our Datacad 12 symbol browser. Is there more? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not quite sure what you are referring to here. Do you have the arched trims modeled and they're not displaying correctly in o2c?

You can purchase the Cheap Tricks Ware here: http://www.datacad.com/store/ctw_list.htm

Also, with DataCAD 12, you can import 3D items that you can download from the Sketchup 3D warehouse.

For 3D trees and other plants, if you want true, realistic 3D, you may want to export your DataCAD model to Sketchup (which you can download for free) or some other 3D rendering program. True 3D plants have so many entities that it will really slow down your DataCAD drawing.

For rough, non-realistic 3D plants, you could try the 3D trees located at the bottom of the downloads page here: http://www.datacad.com/download/frame.htm

For arched smart windows, you currently can't do this easily, but it can be done. Right now, smart windows are limited to rectangular shapes, but you can use a 3D symbol of an arched window in the "Sash" tab of the "Window Type Manager". Since the wall opening will still be a rectangular shape, you would need to fill in the wall with 3D slabs or polygons.

For more information about using 3D symbols for smart windows, look at the following posts:

For more 3D symbols, you can look at the following:

http://www.geappliances.com/
When you look at the details of a specific appliance, under the "Manuals and Documentaion" tab, they have a "CAD Download" option for many of their appliances. This is a DXF file that can be opening in DataCAD. They are high in detail (large file size which may slow down your drawing if you use very many of them) and you will need to apply your own textures to them

http://www.us.kohler.com/tech/cadsymbol/cadsymbol.jsp
Here, you can download many of the kohler plumbing fixtures and other related products in 2D or 3D. Like the GE appliances, they are in DXF format and will need to have materials applied to them. These also have a high number of entities and, therefore, may cause your drawing to be a little slow, depending on your computer and the number of fixtures that you use.

No I do not have them modeled. Thats most of my trouble. Can't figure out how to begin. I'm after depth and height in an arch similar to using slabs.

If you can post an image of the trims that you are trying to model (either a picture or a 2D sketch), then we can provide tips on how to create a 3D model of it.

I don't think your problem is o2c, it's you. Once you get the model up, o2c should display it fine.
I have wondered about this very problem only quite recently and, for a beginner, you are jumping in at the deep end.
Gothic columns are easy enough to make up out of cylinders and curves. I don't think they ever had entasis. If they did, ignore it. The arches are a different story. You might look at the Sweep macro in 3D tools. I think that may be your best chance - and the copy tool your best friend.
