A problem with SketchUp file import was discovered in DataCAD X3. The problem revolves around Microsoft Visual C++ runtime components which are needed by the SketchUp Reader in DataCAD. These .DLLs are called by the SketchUp Reader when you insert a SketchUp file. If the SketchUp Reader is unable to locate and access those .DLLs, then you’re unable to insert a SketchUp file, or even preview it. Most DataCAD X3 users will experience this problem, however some may not.

The latest DataCAD X3 patch (version 13.03.01.01) is intended to fix this problem, by installing a redistributable package entitled “Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update”. This redistributable package can also be found on the Microsoft web site.

A similar problem existed in DataCAD 12, where a Microsoft Visual C++ file named MSVCR71.DLL was not being installed. This problem existed in the installation program for the initial release of DataCAD 12.00.00, but was later corrected. The full install for DataCAD 12.08.04 corrects the problem. The problem can also be corrected by simply copying MSVCR71.DLL into the DataCAD 12 program folder.
