circular self xrefs

When copying self xrefs a dialogue box appears indicating the creation of a circular reference, is this a problem? It is annoying to have to go through the insert routine every time, move and copy is so much easier.

Hello Paul,

Circular XRef's are not a problem per se, until such time as you things really circular; then things can slow down a bit when you open the file. I regularly work with 5 or 6 files that are pretty heavily circular (each file has 6-15 XRef's in it) and if I need to have Nesting turned on in very many of the XRef's, then they take a little longer to open. Otherwise, they work just fine.

I posted a general outline on how I use XRef's here.

Curiously when reopening the file, the circular xref dialog box doesn't appear.

There's a glitch in the circular xref warning routine somewhere.
It doesn't always work right. This is actually good for me, as
it doesn't appear upon opening a file if the file was copied with
an inserted xref already in it. All our default title block border
files already have our company logo xref'd into them, and I
always xref the border file into my default files before copying
them to specific projects. In fact, this worked so well for me,
I had no clue as to what people were talking about when they
wrote in about circular Xref warning dialog boxes, until one day
somebody came to me with a problem with one of their files.

Yes, those circular warnings are a royal pain when you need
to open many files at once and rationalize that you should be
able to go fill your cup at the water cooler. It's one of those
"DUH!" type of things because I already know I use self
xrefs.
