So I was able to load the software to my new Windows Surface Pro. But when I try to open the program I get a message saying "This program cannot start because HLVDD.DLL is missing from your computer. Try re-installing the program to fix the problem." So I've tried to reinstall to no avail. Any suggestion? Thankxx

Hi David,

You might be able to get it working by downloading the latest hardlock driver from the DataCAD web site. Remember that v11 came out about when WinXP was new, so the driver included on the installation disk is way out of date.

AFAIK, the hardlock is not supported by Windows 8.

Well, THERE'S the premier reason to upgrade to V16 if you want/have to move to Windoze 8!

I just got v11 running in Windows 8 on a new laptop.

I set the program "Compatibility" to Windows 7 and followed the "X3 Hlvdd.dll Windows 7 x64 Hardlock failiure" instructions for the hardlock workaround. Only difference was copying the new hlvdd.dll to "C:\Windows\SysWOW64" then making sure the hardlock was in a USB 2.0 port. Seems to be running fine so far.

Now to install v15 and see what happens....

Still a good reason to upgrade to v16, I'm only running v11 because a Client wanted me to.

Time to get a new client?

Thanks for adding to the knowledge base Stuart! Just another reason this forum (and program) are so great!

I agree with Stuart Jackson. Install the updated driver. Then find the Hlvdd.dll file in the "c:\windows\system32" folder and copy it into the "c:\windows\SysWOW64" folder. I also copied Aladdin Hardlock Key files in the SysWow64 folder too. Then I installed DataCAD 11.

Everything worked like a charm.

If you left the default installation path, you won't be able to customize anything, like keyboard shortcuts.

You have to do a custom installation to C:\DataCAD 11 if you want to change anything and have it work.

You guys keep finding ways to run ancient versions of DataCAD on your new hardware with its new OS and I'll be making my retirement plans sooner than I had hoped. :?
