I have been using Version 11 and am upgrading to version 16. Do I need to do anything to import a drawing into version 16 to make any changes to it?

Nothing special -- just pick File/Open, and then choose the file to open it.

No sir, DataCAD 16 will read DataCAD 11 files directly. However, if you then need to open a DataCAD 16 file in version 11, you must use Save As in v16 and select DataCAD 11 Files in the Save as type drop-down box.

OK, so I opened an existing file created in version 11. Version 16 will not allow me to cut the walls for windows and doors. The Z height is set at 9 feet. Will I need to take a course to run version 16? I worked with version 11 and loved it. Can I change version 16 to operate like 11?

DataCAD 16 creates parametric walls, doors and windows by default and will not cut the old 2 1/2D walls created in v11. However, v16 can still create walls the old way. Go into the Architect menu and toggle off Auto 3D. You should now be able to work with your old walls.

Get out of DataCAD and open the file dcadwin.ini in Notepad. Look in the [General] section for the following key:

SHX Conversion=100

And change it to:

SHX Conversion=0

Restart DataCAD and see if your .CHR fonts now show up as .SHX fonts.

Just place them in the Support Files\Hatch Patterns folder. If these patterns are contained in a dcadwin.pat file, they will need to be converted after you've copied them into that folder. You can do them individually in the Manage dialog of the Hatch menu. Or you can (again) open dcadwin.ini in Notepad and find the following key in the [HatchPatterns] section:

Converted=TRUE

And change it to:

Converted=FALSE

This will cause all existing .PAT files to be converted to the new .DHP file format.
