I wonder if the newly released version of SU 2015 will play nice with DC 17?
Any tried this out yet?

If anyone else used Render[In] as a plug-in with SU, it too is not yet compatible with SU 2015. Sticking with SU 2014 for now. Software is starting to get to be like car years where it is released with a name that is months before the actual year changes.

Hey, I just paid to up-grade to SU 2014 just two-months ago -- and now there's a SU 2015??

Ted, you may get the upgrade for very little or no cost. I'm upgrading from SU V8 and it's only $95. Its now a subscription program I believe.

Sketchup is on a yearly subscription plan, so the upgrade to 2015 will be at no additional cost, until the subscription comes due.
This is the same model that DataCAD LLC is now using.

I have just completed exporting a large DC17 model to Sketchup 2015 and it works very well.

100% of all modeling, except for the vehicles, were modeled in DataCAD.
Note that nested symbols will not export to Sketchup so they need to be exploded in DataCAD and then exported.

I am hoping I can convince Robert Scott to add some of his magic for the final renderings

Have you tried exporting SU 2015 files to Datacad 17.
I can't get Datacad to open them.

My understanding is that SU 2015 files will not export to DataCAD. I believe that DataCAD LLC is working on an update. In the meantime, the SU 2015 file can be saved as any of the earlier SU versions however.

So is it safe to upgrade to SU-2015 now? Or wait for the Datacad update?

I've heard there are some problems with some SU Plug-ins also not working with SU-2015.

I just upgraded to SU-2014 Pro a few months ago, and still getting the hang of using Layout for some construction drawings instead of importing my models to Datacad, then documenting them for construction.

Wait for the DataCAD update - or do a Save As back to 2013/14 SU file.

You can always run multiple version of SU including a 30 day trial of 2015 and do a "save as" for backward compatibility. The new version of SU does appear to handle large files better in the limited time I've used it. I've not experienced any issues with plug ins but those tend to get ironed out with a active SU user base.
