:? This something new that just started occurring with every file. With the file open, when I want to click the "layers" button to open new layers, the file closes to the initial DataCAD gray screen. This is in DataCAD 16.

I have been working on the files on another computer with DCAD 17 and they work just fine. I returned to the computer with DCAD 16 and discovered that the problem no longer exists. The layer button is completely operable now. All I can imagine is that it was a computer memory glitch that caused the problem. The full virus scan is almost complete, but I don't expect to find that kind of problem.

Datacad 16 and older will probably not work with Windows 10 versions 10240 or higher. If you are going to want to run windows 10, you will need to upgraded to Datacad 17/18.

We have similar issues with DC16 and the latest windows 10 update.
In the layers menu if you hit F1 to turn layers on or off it crashes, and if you try and create a new gotoview, it crashes when you hit enter to save the name.
Neither upgrading datacad or down grading windows is an option at this time. Any other fixes?

Nope. Only thing you can do is defer the Fall Update for Windows 10 for a while. You will have to work around the menus that crash Datacad 16 and earlier versions on Windows 10 with the Fall Update. Looks Like Datacad was kind enough to patch up version 16 also so looks like your good to go with the latest update. Boy they are pretty nice over there on the East Coast, I'd send them some beer. ;) Here is a list of menus I found that crashed Datacad 18 before Datacad released the most recent patch that fixed the problem. Others have mentioned GTV issues, but I have not seen those myself.

Hat off to The gang on east cost!!! Hard to justify $990.00 for site plans............ I could not get the local support to go 3D with DataCad so I had to move on, being a one man office to much work around for one person......
I like Datacad and as soon as my lottery numbers win...... I'll be updating........... until then,,,, I'll keep checking in!!!!!

It's only $300 a year if you keep an active subscription plan. Must be a gamer with the rig specs you are showing if all you are drawing is site plans ;)

Josh,

I keep both licenses up to date, or not. I have had another program from back in 1995 for doing 3D stuff for clients at preliminaries. I bit the bullet last year and am doing everything but site plans in it. Time savings, changes, and customer involvement has really helped....not to mention the added stuff to plans with little to no extra work.
I am currently learning Revit LT as it is $650.00 on all my computers desktop subscription. I tried to do BIM in Datacad, for years way to much work around and then as new options came out. learn new work around. I really miss Datcad daily, how ever with new designers with less experience, with DIY design software, easer to compete by using the DIY software to a professional level, beyond most of their expertise.
Sadly if you can not beat them join them.............
The rig,,,, is more shortening the learning curve! (my dyslexia gives me a disadvantage and advantage at the same time!!!!) The number of times it takes me to learn what you learn quickly, is helped by rig doing it faster so time line is closer....
Builders still, think you look at screen and blink and it is there,,,,, sadly the inexperienced, and the do it for you software,,,,,, supports that thinking, over professional service.....
