I am sure this has been discussed, but could not find in search. As I am sure many know, windows 10 is not compatible with dcad 15. I have had problems of crashing when i went to got to view or print when I upgraded from windows 7. Big mistake! :( However, a newer computer I had that I updated did not seem to have these problems. Therefore, I have been using it for drawing. However, this morning a windows upgrade changed that machine, too. How are people coping with this? Is there a path to reinstall windows 7. I have a machine on windows 8 which I do not care for. However, dcad never had a problem with it. I may have to switch to that machine for drawing dcad.

Input will be appreciated as I learn to cope with these limitations. However, upgrading to current version of dcad would be one option.

It's the Fall update for Windows 10 that triggers the incompatibility. If you click the Start button and type winver and hit enter it should bring up the windows version. If it's 1511 or later Datacad 15 and older is affected. If the update has been installed less than 30 days, you can roll the update back by going to Start, Settings, Update & Security, Windows Update, Advanced Options, View Your update History, Uninstall latest build (the verbiage here might be slightly different). If someones system has not yet updated to this version yet, they can set Windows 10 to Defer Upgrades under Settings, Update & Security, Advanced Options. This will only defer major upgrades to the OS, but still allows security updates to install. This upgrade for Windows 10 fixes a lot of bugs with Windows so it is something we want to have.

If windows 10 has been installed for less than 30 days you can roll it back to Windows 7. I'd back your files before hand just to be safe.

This sound like the same problem I have had for the past few months. I have Windows 10 ver 1511, and am using DCAD 14.
Mostly it appears to run ok, but the one specific thing that triggers a crash seems to be related to the LAYERS menu option:

If I select 'Layers' ( [L] ) and then hit [F1] or [F4] or some (not all) of the other "F" keys, the drawing is immediately dumped without saving, but DCAD has not actually crashed, and you can reload the drawing and carry on (after fixing what was lost since the last save.)

It also happens if 'Move' is selected and then [F4] for 'to Layer'. But I haven't found any other combinations that are fatal.
All the "F" keys seem to work properly otherwise.

I can still perform the functions without upset provided I remember to select with with the mouse or the drop down menus, rather than the "F" shortcut.

Is there any chance of some sort of patch to fix this?

The best patch will always be to upgrade to the latest DC version (not hoping for a patch to a much older version).

You are working on software (DCAD) 4 versions old, I wouldn't expect a patch unless Datacad is extremely generous. I can't think of any software company that would write patches for out of date software, that is what upgrades are for. So I would not expect a patch for version 14, and personally I would prefer they didn't spend valuable programming time writing patches for old versions. That programming time would be better spent, in my opinion, on writing improvements for the current software.
