Patterns in colours

I use DataCAD 16.
When using patterns over colors on a plan to a small scale, I need to change the color of the pattern to a light color instead of black.
How do I achieve this? Every time I try to adjust the settings for a light colored pattern, I get a black pattern - I am missing something.
