Boolean 3D and cylinders

I must be doing something wrong. I want to create a 3d "ring". I do a vertical cylinder with Z base 0 and height 1/8" and then inside that I do another cylinder, Z base -1/8" and height +1/4". I first select the outer cylinder, and then click Continue and set to Subtract and click on the inner cylinder and then click Begin.

What I end up with is the inner circle instead of the outer ring??? Don't get it, I have used this procedure many times with decent results so not sure how I am ending up with the piece I don't need and wouldn't need Boolean procedure to get a 3D disk shape.

I'm sure it is something obvious but I can't figure out why I am not getting the ring. Looking forward to hearing from you, Thanks.
