If a drawing just quits (dumps) and there appears to be no $wp or recovery file. Is there any way to recover the drawing file or could it have gone some where else? If we send you a log file can you determine what went wrong.

Check to see if there are ARB and ARF files in the AEC files directory.

The other possible place to find a version of the crashed file in in the RECOVER_ARCHIVE folder, in the DataCAD folder. I think the DRF files can be opened directly, but if not, you can copy it, and rename it to AEC, I think.
