Export to Sketchup bombs

I know a lot of people here export their models to SU so they can work their magic. I have a complicated model that I have been trying to export to SU but after several minutes and about 55% my computer just stops responding and I have to reboot. I need to send this file to a client as I don't use SU. Any ideas what I may be doing wrong? Thanks for any help.

Try Exporting to DWG and then importing into Sketchup.

I have made it my habit, ever since DCAD could export to SU, to do a DXF export from DCAD to SU. I have just found that to be the cleanest transfer process and causes the least number of entities ignored. I haven't had the best experiences trying to go directly from DCAD to SU.
