In a new file, when I go to Object Viewer to look at the design, all I have is a black background. Im good with other files. Is there a toggle or setting which either make the lines invisible or sends it to infinity?

If you Right-Click in the Object Viewer and select Reset View, or press the [Home] key, does your model appear?
