It's necessary to exchange drawings with other architects or engineers who don't use Datacad. Unfortunatelly it's not always possible to import .dwg files and I get error messages like "Error number out of range". What can I do to open these Autocad drawing files? I use a P4 1.8GHz computer with Windows XP and Datacad 11.05.02.

This message means that the file is in AutoCAD 2004 or 2005 (R16.x) format. At present, you'll need to have your associates save in AutoCAD 2000 format (R15.x).

Our BETA team is currently testing the next free update which will add support for AutoCAD 2004 and 2005 format. We hope to release it in the next couple of weeks.

If I'm understanding Autodesk correctly, AutoCAD 2004, 2005, and 2006 share the same drawing file format. When DataCADD LLC releases the new translator, it should be able to read/write to AutoCAD 2006 and earlier. Is this correct?

Phil,
The other thing that always gets Datacad is also the special space that some of the addons create. I have had a lot luck when I ask the engineer to use the file migration aspect of Autocad and have them save the file as a Release 12 drawing.
