hello and thanks for any help
for some reason, using DataCAD 11 full version, windows 2000 on Dell 1200mhz laptop, when I install, I choose the normal measurements for architects, inches/feet, etc.., but when I reopen a file, it changes back to metric and won't let me input X and y coordinates.

Hello Shawn,

When you are in that file, go to the Settings/Scale Type and change it to Arch. That should fix the metric issue.

In the Status Area, can you pull down the list of input modes?
