I've found a way to use elevat with smart walls. Well kinda
First smart walls and windows have to be on a layer on their own 1 per floor
eg. 1plan etc.
turn on all smart layers
go to tools extract 2d/3d
uncheck get 2d so only layer search and get 3d is toggled on
hit continue
this will create 3d layers for each of the smart layers at the end on the layer list something like 3d_1plan01, 3d_2plan01 etc.
Now go back to your model view turn off smart layers and turn on 3d extract layers
now elevat.dcx will work
it sounds like alot but it a only takes a minute
