Does anyone know how to plot a 24 X 36 sheet on an hp designjet 800, so that the actual paper width will be 24 inches and not blank out the borders a standard Architectural sheet?

We've been using Custom plot setting 36 x 24.35, which is the smallest width we can use without blanking out the border, yet it still yields an actual paper width of 24.5 inches or so.

Is there a work around to adjust the plotters default margins? (seems to be set for half an inch)

Or must we redraw all our borders to narrow their width?

We are hoping to get a setting that we can print without having to go back and hand-cut the sheets back to 24 inches wide.

In Properties, Paper tab, click More Sizes, and check on "Full Bleed", see if that works. Otherwise, there may be some hardware or firmaware setting that is forcing the margins.

PS: I don't own an hp800, but, have used the hp800ps driver to generate postscript files for a friend. The preview in DataCAD does show full bleed.

We have a 1050C, and I'm guessing that the "full bleed" setting is the same thing as what is called "Oversize" in it's driver. This should work -- but the frustrating thing with HP's drivers lately, is that they are anything but predictable -- they seem to be quite buggy, in fact.

I am running Win2K and the other machine is WinXP -- the plot areas that result with the same exact settings on each machine are different and very often force use to plot something from one machine or the other to get something to plot correctly!

We are seriously considering buying the WinLine driver, which should make everything consistent.

We ended up using only the 5 custom paper sizes, and tweaked them untill the effective paper size in Datacad read an exact match to the paper size. This was the only way we could get all of our drawing to scale properly from 1/4" to 1:800 scale. Of course, could have had something to do with single precision back then. It's still working for us. To get the 42.00, we actually had to use 43.659. If we used 43.66, the effective size would be 42.01 The driver rounds it up to .66 itself and it comes out even. Took a while to figure out that the driver would take 3 digits.

After going through quite a bit of frustration ourselves - mostly with plotting our engineers drawings, I found on the hp website that the designjet 800 requires .7 inches on the leading and trailing edges of the paper. If you're using 24" roll paper - portrait mode will ink 34.7" in length x 23.6" in width. If you're using 36" roll paper - landscape mode will ink 22.7" in length x 35.6" in width. We've modified our border template drawing and are in the process of having our engineers change theirs for our project. Good Luck!
