Apparently there has been a recent update to Windows (Vista) that has changed how it handles DataCAD and related items. This morning, whenever I start DataCAD on my laptop the UAC asks for permission to run DataCAD each time it is run (it never did that before). There is no provision to "run as administrator" if that would even get by this. Also, when I open DataCAD my subst drive P: doesn't show up and DataCAD repaths to C:\DataCAD12 for the drawing files. The computer lists the P: substitution as available but Windows will not give DataCAD access to it. (The P: drive is not listed in the DataCAD file window dropdown and you cannot type in a direct address to it.) After trying several things, I found that the most reasonable solution was to turn off UAC.
