I started working in a drawing someone else started. I noticed that his cursor looked like a scope crosshair. (Circle with two lines intersecting at the center.
I started searching the forum for how this may be done. I came across this post by jddarr66...

I am curious to know if there is a way certain settings such as input mode, snap aperture and big cursor to be user related and not drawing related?? If there isn't there should be. Not everyone likes to use the aperture or the big cursor mode or direction / distance input mode and I'm hearing whining from people. Rolling Eyes

Because it appears these settings are native to the drawing, when I save the file, those settings are evoked. Since I am a minority with using these functions, I've been told I cannot use them. Most CAD programs (at least the major ones) leave these settings to be defined by each user as part of the GUI.

Please tell me there is a magic button I do not know about that does not save these settings as part of the drawing OR that future versions of datacad will correct this mistake.

Thanks,
David Darr

First question... what is the apeture and what does it do? I think I am missing something there.
Second... where is the setting for the "crosshair cursor"?

Its under Object Snap , S9 Aperture

The + key (on the numeric kepad) toggles the crosshairs to full screen or "scoped" as you called it.

Aperture gives you a visible idea of the snap distance, in other words, you can snap to anything within the circle. Anyting outside of the circle will not register.

Hello,

The aperture can be changed in size, by changing the snap distance. It will snap to points outside the snap distance -- but part of the entitiy must be inside the snap distance/aperture.

I use some icons (that came out a while back, as part of a bit called the Productivity Pack, aka ProPack) that toggle on walls -- and then the aperture shows up; toggle off walls, and the aperture goes away. :) I find this easier than looking at the wW in SWOTHLUDFB.

What about changing a crosshair that is rotated to an angle?
I'm working on a drawing that has the crosshair angled for specific views and I can't figure out where to change it back to default.

To just turn off the rotated cursor, hit B on your keyboard to get into the Tangents menu, then F3 Cancel.

If you want to update the GTV so it no longer rotates the cursor when that GTV is loaded, you will also need to go into the GTV menu and Update the GTV with Tangents turned off.
