Is there a way to retain the highlight settings when binding an xref as a symbol. This would be useful in archiving a drawing that contains an xref, say a preliminary site plan, when the floor plan may subsequently change, to avoid many saved versions.[/code]

There is currently no way to retain the highlight settings for round tripping an xref to a symbol and back again.

Not sure a I follow you on the archiving goal you mentioned. Can you give a more detailed list of the file/folder structure you are using? Ideally if a single version of a site plan exists as an xref with in a file for a building plan, doing a Save As of the building plan for a possible plan revision should only create a new version of the building plan, and it should share the same site xref as the original plan.
