Is there a way to have the point to point option as a default when selecting the measures command?
I am tiring of having to select point to point every time.

If you are using the Alt+X keyboard shortcut you can edit it to work the way you asked.

Open the dcadwin.mcr file in the Datacad\support files folder. (you can use notepad for this).

Scroll down til you find this line:

X^26#^
//measures menu

At the end of the top line add:

F4^

So it should now read as:

X^26#^F4^
//measures menu

Now when you hit Alt+X you will get the point to point measure function.

Hope this helps.

Tony,
You pulled the words right out of my fingers.
:)

P.S.= I have done this with many of the menu options to quickly select the most common commands. Even so far as completely changing the shortcut.
This really cuts down on drawing time.

See I am not finding the dcadwin.mcr
I see dcadwinmcr which lists as an 001 file. I open it with notepad but do not see the pathname you list.

If it helps I am on Windows XP and DataCAD 11

The files that end in .001 and so on are created as backups when updates are installed. You have to have this file. I cannot see DataCAD running well without it.

Try running a search for it.

You need to set your Windows folder options to not hide extensions of known file types.

X^:^F7^

This is what I am finding in the file I did a search for.
It is a bit different than what you were listing.

Should I try modifying this line?

Yes, either of the following will accomplish what you want:

Code: Select allX^:^F7^F4^

OR
Code: Select allX^26#^F4^

The 1st method will work regardless of your DataCAD version, the 2nd is specific to v11.

Are you using DataCAD 11? If so you can copy and paste my line right in. If you are using an earlier version just add the F4^ to the end of that line.

However, you must do this in the dcadwin.mcr file itself. The 001 file will not do you any good. Try Dave's recommendation and have windows show you all file types and extentions. I believe this is under Folder Options.

DCADWIN.MCR

This is the file I am opening.
I have changed this:
X^:^F7^
to this:
X^:^F7^ F4^

I closed out and restarted DataCAD....

It does not seem to work. With either the measures icon or the sidebar command.
Hmmmmm.

I even changed it to:
X^26#^F4^

Still not working.
I must be doing something incorrect.

This modification is altering your keyboard macro [Alt]+x only, it will not change the behavior of the left-hand menu nor the toolbar icon.

OK.

The code I gave you is for using the Alt+x keyboard shortcut. If you want this from your Icon then you need to open the toolbar file (c:\datacad\support files\toolbars files ending in .dtb) and edit the same code there too.

The side menu won't be changeable for this.
