I use Direction / Distance, and I am trying to draw a line for a standard brick, so the best way to do that is to divide 8" by 3. I hit the space bar and type: =.8/3 and I get an odd result of 0.3.3/16 aka 3 3/16". The answer should be 2 11/16" more or less.

What am I doing wrong?

Think decimal feet: =(8/12)/3

You can also enter 2 2/3" directly.

i.e. 0.2.2/3

Ah, that's right Dave - decimal feet; that's what I was forgetting. And thanks Mark - I should have remembered this, too.
