Another architect sent me plt files from Datacad and I am at a total loss as to how I am suppose to plot them.

Did the sender give you a pen table? If not, you may have to ask for one. In that event, you might ask him to send a PDF instead.
It could be, of course that the sender is using DataCad 7. If not, then sending another DataCadder a PLT file can be seen as unprofessional and discourteous.

Hello Rod,

Perhaps what you should do is just send to the plotter and print it!

If you have a plotter, try this:

a) Put the .PLT file on a known folder;
b) At prompt type 'copy filename.plt lpt1';
c) Hit Enter.

The plotter bureau can do the same.

The original drawing creator possibly used a generic format, like HP/GL-2 or HP DJ 750 C which can be handled by any plotter. The pen table is usually included on the .PLT file
