When I copy a multi-layer drawing from one DC file to another, every entity on the source file is moved to the current layer on the new file I am copying into.

Is there a setting somewhere in DC where I can retain the original layers when copying to the clipboard, then pasting from the clipboard?

When you go to paste, there should be an option F8 Original Layers option in the Paste menu. If the layers exist already in the drawing, entities will be added to the existing layers. Layers that don't exist will be added to the drawing.
