Seems like a long time ago that when in the Layer Manager, it used to show a count of entities by layer then a summary of all entities in the current drawing.

I haven't seen the summary in a long time. Is there a switch somewhere that I have turned off?

there is no switch that I know of.
In the DcadWin.ini file, the layer manager should have a line
CountColWidth=94
number would vary, but should be more than zero

Are you looking for Utility > Drawing Info? That shows the same entity by layer and total entities.
