Anyone know of a simple tutorial someplace (or instructions) for how to take a 2D DataCAD elevation drawing and rendering it with color and materials' textures? Can this be done within DataCAD or is it easier and quicker to make a PDF of the elevation and then save it as a JPG and then render it with Photoshop? Will SketchUp take a 2D DataCAD file and render it like it does for 3D DataCAD models?

I think Neil Blanchard had posted how he had created some colored 2D elevations - probably quite a while ago now. Bob Scott would be another one who could comment on it as well.

I did a colored site plan early last year and just put the solid fills on a separate layer (or layers? don't remember right now), set to a pen that was NOT set to "All Black".

I'll have to pull it back up and see what I did!

Here's elevations we have colorized by exporting line drawings from DataCAD via PDF. Open the PDF in PS and color away using layers.

I also like to create simple 2D elevations from Sketchup.....pretty easy to colorize and you have the shadow layer which you have to manually create for the CAD to PS method.

Scott Onstott has some good tutorials and videos including his book "Enhancing CAD drawings in Photoshop".

Let me know if you have any questions...glad to help.
