I am looking for a 3D symbol of a person to place in my plans as a size reference. Has anyone run across this?

You could try downloading Sketchup. There is an Add-on you can download to that has a fair amount of 3D people in it. If you explain what you are wanting the person to be doing (sitting, standing, walking) then maybe I can send you one in Datacad format.
