A few ways to create an opening with a head/lintel using smart walls in DataCAD12:

1. Define a smart door or window and turn off all the settings so there are no entities, but set the sill/head heights accordingly. When you insert either a 'door' or 'window' you get the opening created in the smart wall complete with either a sill and/or head in place.

2. Insert a standard smart door or window in a wall and MOVE the door or window to another layer (turned off)....it leaves the opening in place.
