I have need for a split-face block hatch. Has anyone developed one they would like to share? Or can someone share their technique for representing split-face using standard DCAD hatches. I looked at the cheap tricks hatch catalog (PDF) of available hatches but did not see anything for split-face block.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Personally, concrete masonry is concrete masonry, and I let the elevations show were different finish textures go.
I have sometimes used a squiggle(?) type line to indicate the split face side, and also once did a double hatch with both the CMU (ansi31? I think I copied to cmy) and then either concrete or cement.
Do you hatch different for drywall and water resistant drywall?

I'm sorry; I needed to be more specific. I am drawing elevations (1/8 & 1/4 scale) and was trying to come up with a hatch to give the apearance of the split face vs. plain cmu.

I will typically use the double hatch method in this case.
Regular cmu hatch to show the coarsing, then cement hatch to give the split face appears.
I guess one could look at the two patterns, match sure the scale factor was the same between the two and combine the patterns.

Here is how I do this. I hatch the area with the standard CMU then do a copy of the hatch over itself. Change my settings to "Fill 11" from Josh Huggins site, with a Density of 45% and select the hatch. It will only hatch one and the other will retain the CMU.

Looks good Wiz! One thing on your link. The img commands don't work for PDF (bummer) but to make your link click-able just remove the

Here is a pattern I made a long time ago by combining the CMU or Concrete Block hatch with Cement.

I call it "CMU with Poche"

[Header]
Scale=1
Angle=0
Display Scale=10
Segments=5

[Segments]
001=0,0,0,0,0,0,256
002=0,0,90,0,0,256,256,256,-256
003=0,0,20,0,0,0,128,-124.800003051758,3.20000004768372
004=0,0,55,0,0,0,128,-124.800003051758,3.20000004768372
005=0,0,80,0,0,0,128,-124.800003051758,3.20000004768372

See if this works for you.

OK, I used to know how to enter new hatch text into the old .pat files we had pre-v11. But, I tried cutting and pasting the text you presented for the CMU with Poche pattern into an existing .dhp file (the v.11 file extension for hatch patterns), then erasing the existing text for that existing hatch pattern, and then saving the file with a different name than it had but the file saves out with a .txt extension instead of a .dhp extension that is required for v.11 to recognize the file. So, I am obviously using the wrong method here to get a new hatch pattern into DCAD. Any suggestions?

David,

Just rename the file from Windows Explorer to remove the txt description and have the dhp as the extension. Should work then. If not I can send you the dhp file itself.

Never mind. Found my own solution. For others who may have had the same question as I, here's my solution to getting Tony's kindly offered hatch pattern into the mix of other DCAD hatch patterns:

1. Copy an existing .dhp hatch file by right clicking on one and hitting "copy."
2. Click on the Hatches directory and right click to "paste" that file.
3. It will show up as a copy of the copied hatch pattern.
4. Rename the copied file for what you will want to call the new hatch pattern.
5. Copy the text for the new hatch pattern (highlight all, copy).
6. Open the renamed hatch file. Highlight all of the text. Right click and hit "paste." The new pattern text will replace the existing text.
7. In "File", click save. The file will save out to the correct .dhp extension and you now have a new hatch pattern that will be recognized by DCAD.

Hello David:

The thing that usually causes this is NotePad's default file extension: if you change it to All Files when you save it (rather than the default .txt), then you can do it like you wanted to.

Thanks for all your ideas. I will try the hatch over hatch method with the Cement hatch and Tony's Fill hatch. It is always great to get input from others. There are usually several approaches to most anything.

Now if you want to make it real easy you take the pattern text and import it into excel as a comma separated file and multiply the CMU by 32. This will give you a CMU at a scale of 1.

Do the same with the fill hatch except multiply it by 256. This will make it a scale of 1 as well. Then save them as comma separated files and then copy and paste the fill into the CMU and save it. Now you have a single hatch pattern that displays like your screen shot at a scale of 1.

I may do this myself!
