I know this was addressed 10 years ago or more. Something about hatch scale, hatch type window size or some other element causes hatches to take a VERY LONG TIME when trying to display a hatch to choose. There was some trick to speed that up so that very large or small scale patterns don't take FOREVER to fill the hatch type window.
I had a tiny window and expanded it so I could actually see the pattern, then I hit some complex pattern and it took more time to fill than it did to post this query.
Help please.

It's been a long time since I had any issue. The platform is remarkably stable.
