From the title of the post, I am asking is there a way to retrieve my work? Or is a case of that work is lost forever?.
I tried to rename it with no success in sight. Thank you in advance and all the best.

you could try to see if the file is in the DataCad21\Recover_Archive or Temporary Files folders when you can rename those files to .aec.
I would change the name from .arf to -arf.aec, .$wp to -$wp.aec, etc. so you know where it came from.
