we are iN THE MARKET FOR A new COMPUTER OR LAPTOP (at home)

WE DONT KNOW WHAT TO GET.

WE DO HAVE A BUDGET OF $1,200

I'M NOT SURE IF IM GOING TO RUN DATACAD ON IT THOUGH,
(I dont know if it's kewl to buy an old version from my employer.)

WE ARE ALSO FAVORABLE TO DELL. (discount)

Hi Jason,

Desktop or a laptop, huh? Can you narrow it down a bit? What are your priorities, and what are the advantages of each, as you see them?

A laptop will cost you 50%-100% more for the same performance, depending on 1) how light it is, 2) how long a typical battery charge lasts, and 3) how big a screen it has. If it is leaft in one place most of the time, and/or plugged in most of the time, and/or you can live with a smaller screen, then it will still cost more than an equivalent desktop. And upgrading/expanding a laptop is harder; and there are other things that can drive up the cost of owning a laptop; like a docking station.

So, you should carefully consider the actual needs for the portability of a laptop.
