Ever since I upgraded from Windows ME to XP I get the following error when I boot up:

File Error
Cannot Find
MVAPI2.DLL

It does not hinder me, that I know of. I upgraded well over a year ago.
I am not sure what this does.
I did find this on google. Is it safe

Hi Eric,

I'd guess that this is related to the MS Media Player -- try installing the latest version (via Windows Update?) and see if that helps.

Well the Windows update did not cure it but going here did:

After I placed the mvapi2.dll file in my System32 folder I rebooted.
Then I got a new error saying it could not find mvfs2.dll
So I went to the site above and found it and the problem has been solved.
Or at least there are no more errors on rebooting.

But, what does it do, and why do you need it? If you just installed WinXP, then if it was anything important, wouldn't it have been installed?
