Hello Group,

I am looking for a 3D model of a Chevy Tahoe. I bought a 3D DXF and DWG file, but I cannot view the entire file. I am currently using DataCAD 10.02.01. I asked the model people to please send me an AutoCAD 14 or 2000 DXF and DWG. They did, but I still cannot view the entire model. I will tell you that the model I downloaded is the entire engine, transmission, exhaust and interior. I also see that when I downloaded it, everything is on one layer. It is a 415,548 kb DXF File. All I really need is just the exterior of the vehicle. All that I can see now is the rubber strip that goes on top of the step bars on the outside of the vehicle.

Thanks for your help.

I guess that I should clarify that I am trying to use a 3D model in o2c. This way I can set it rotating slowly and use Snagit to generate a short video. I am trying to make a video for a company that is making an accessory that attaches to the outside of the Chevy Tahoe. I see that there is a simple SUV in the DataCAD Site Template that I can probably edit (a lot). I was hoping to start with a better 3D model. This not what I normally use DataCAD for, but it is something I am trying to do. I did buy a 3D model from Humster 3D, but neither the DXF nor the DWG file will load in DataCAD. I did request that they send the files to me in AutoCAD 14 and AutoCAD 2000 format.

If you have Sketchup you can try to import the DWG/DXF into Sketchup. Clean up the model and throw away everything you don't need to make the model lighter. Then export into DataCAD.

Here's a 2013 Tahoe I converted from Sketchup. You'll have to clean it up a bit and map your colors.

Hello Neil,

I clicked on his dropbox and there is a 2013 Chevy Tahoe there, but it has a .aec file extension. I don't know if this is the newer file extension, but DataCAD 10 is using a .dc5 file extension. Hopefully I will be getting an upgrade soon and will be able to avoid these hassles.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hello Robert,

Thank you!

I just downloaded and imported it into DataCAD10. I can see that I need to move a lot of parts up in Z level, but most of it is there. I don't see the hood or front fenders. I am attaching a screen capture of what I got. You can see that most of it is there, but the steering wheel is below the vehicle, the gauges are behind the vehicle and a lot of it is at a zero height.

Thank you again.

Could be due to the single precision floating point in Datacad v10 vs. double in v11?

Maybe try 3DS?

Is it possible to save this 3D model in a .dc5 extension instead of a .dwg? Or is there another way to save this so I can open/import it into DataCAD 10?

Again I do appreciate your help.
