We are currently looking at purchasing a new specification software. We have looked at "SpecLink" by BSD and the software by MasterSpec. I was wondering if any had used either software or possibly had an alternate that was useful. All comments and suggestions are welcome.

We have used SpecLink since 1995 and would highly recommend it. Speclink uses a yearly subscription pricing model. A bit pricy, but one set of specifications per year more than pays for the subscription (if you outsourced to a spec writing firm).

I am not sure how MasterSpec works, but Speclink is a database rather than a word processing based program. You select paragraphs to include and the program formats the pages for you. It also has an expert component which will remove conflicting paragraphs and will link references between sections automatically.

Takes a bit of time to learn the unique interface, but very nice once you get the hang of it.
