If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Here are some of own philosophical quotes that I have dreamed up over the years:

“Architecture is a series of aesthetic cover-ups on an imperfect science.”
5/11/93

”A Professional is one whose personal liability dramatically outweighs the financial gain obtained for his work.”
5/11/93

“He who consumes experience the fastest, has the most time left to use it.”
11/93

“If you can’t get it perfect, get it done.”
9/95

“Conclusion is what you get when you’re tired of thinking.”
10/95

“Life would be a lot quieter without the little voices in our heads.”
10/97

"The role of an architect is to Communicate, Consult, Coordinate, Conceive, and Control a project.
8/99

"Construction is what you get as the end result to a project where the accidents, mistakes, and dumb things don't add up to enough to make a disaster."
5/2002

“In construction, you will achieve more by striving to minimize the imperfections than you will to expect perfection.”
2/2003

“If you don't watch em like a hawk, they will steal like a turkey vulture.”
2/2003

“Art is appreciating the imagination and creativity of others.
5/2003

“I’m so busy I don’t have time to hyperventilate”
1/2004

“Welcome to the world of construction where the final product usually never reflects the efforts, problems, solutions, and angst that goes into the job to get the end result. ”
3/2004

"A project consists of the appropriate apportionment of size, content,
and budget. Any one of those elements not in sync and there is no
project." 4-2004

“’Twenty years off in time’ used to seem like forever. You know you are getting older when ’20-years ago” seems like yesterday.”
1-2005

“Drawings always make construction seem precise and pristine and it rarely ever works out that way when built.”
12-2005

“In construction, “simple” may mean less expensive whereas “complicated” always means more expensive.”
2-2006

“The memory is the first thing to go but I can never seem to remember that.”
10-2006

“The squeaky wheel gets the grease unless one owns a good set of ear plugs.”

Hey Dick! What up?

I've been practicing architecture, doing a bit of Lisp programming, and keeping myself busy with all sorts of things. I get the automatic announcements that Mark Madura sends out, and recently switched my email notification thing. So on the same day, I thought I'd see what was shaking at the DataCAD forum...who should I see but you, Dave G, and several others from the old days! Of course, I gravitated towards the "Off Topic" thread. But I also notice a "Revision Clouds" thread, so it verily warmed the cockles of my heart to see that good software never dies, it just keeps getting used.

Then I accidentally set myself on fire.... and the rest, as they say, is history....

If you think no one cares that you are alive try missing a couple of car payments.

Good judgement comes from bad experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgement.

These are a few I remember from college:

"Hard work often pays off after time,
But laziness always pays off now"

"It could be that the purpose of your life is
Only to server as a warning to others"

"If you can't learn to do something well,
Learn to enjoy doing it poorly"

"You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take,
and, statistically speaking, 99% of the shots you do"

In all large corporations, there is a pervasive fear that someone, somewhere is having fun with a computer on company time. Networks help alleviate that fear.
