This is Paul Hemmerich, an occasional DataCad user since retirement. I am looking for advice on replacing my Lenovo ThinkPad circa 2018(?) running DataCad 20 and the usual Windows products on Windows 8 (I think). Replacement is prompted by my inability to boot up Thunderbird email and Firefox web browser. I am told that I need Windows 10 or 11, and figure it is about time for an upgrade anyway. The Lenovo has a curious problem in DataCad: a "chunky lineweight" problem that never was resolved. I could never get single-pixel-width lineweights, always double or more. Thus curves and text looked "chunky" and even illegible. The replacement needs to be a laptop as I frequently go back and forth between VT and NH. Any help for this unsavvy architect would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Paul.
I've had good luck with Dell (last one) and MSI (current one) laptops . I, too, do a lot of traveling and although they are bigger and bulkier have gone with a 17" screen, separate numeric keypad, and backlit keys for the past decade. I have used SketchUP quite a bit in the past and always looked at Intel processors and Nvidia graphic cards.
Good luck!
