I need a new laptop/portable desktop that will be used as the primary pc for Datacad, FormZ, Sketchup. A laptop is required as I do not always work in my office. My requirements are 17"-18" monitor, fast processor, reliable, plenty of memory.

Has anyone recently purchased such a pc and would like to share their views with me.

I bought an HP DV7 (Core i7, 1TB hard drive, 16GB RAM, 2GB nVidia GeForce GT 650M video card) 2 years ago - it's been an awesome laptop! One reason I bought this one is that it has a backlit keyboard. What I found with my previous laptop is that unless I was in a very well lit room I had trouble seeing any of the keys.
