Does anyone know much about the following programs?

LightCalc - www.lightcalc.com

Simply Lighting - http://www.lighting-technologies.com/Pr ... Simply.htm

I found these recently while researching, however, I can't find a usable demo for either one of these. Does anyone know of other programs that do lighting calculations?

Michael -

You might try here: http://www.dcolighting.com/lightcalc/

I haven't used it and I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for, but it is free.

How did your search go? Did LightCalc help at all?

How about DataCAD? If you are looking for a simple program to determine footcandle levels of rooms and spaces, as opposed to parking lot lighting calculations, I don't know at what point in time this macro came into existence for DCAD, but I still use LGTCALC.DCX in DCAD to determine footcandle levels for rooms.

Check your existing macros to see if that program is there. If not, you might find it on DataCAD's website where they have some free macros listed.

Thanks for the replies. I recently noticed the LgtCalc macro and, at a glance, it seems very similar to some of those other programs. Unfortunately, I've been too busy lately to finish looking at them very closely. Between training a new draftsman, answering questions for other draftsmen, and trying to keep on top of my projects, I haven't been able to finish looking into these lighting programs.

Hopefully, I'll be able to finish soon, and I'll post what I find.

Well, I still haven't been able to do much testing and comparing with those lighting programs, yet (hopefully, after the spring rush, I'll be able to do more with it).

For those interested, I did find this website, which seems to have a list of several programs and talks about advantages and disadvantages to them:

Many of them seem to have free demos.

AGi32 seems interesting.

I can't find a price (seems like they want to contact you for that). It seems to support AutoCAD quite a bit, claiming to import/export DWG and DXF files including XREFs.

While it would be nice to have something like this incorporated right into DataCAD, it could also be nice to find a good one and see if we could get them to support DataCAD. That way Dave and the other programmers at DataCAD could keep their focus on other features (like expanding the smart entities).
