I am looking for a schematic to con doc workflow that uses primarily datacad with its 3D capabilities. I've seen several companies developing 3D and BIM add ons for sketchup and it seems to me if someone could lead the way and promote this with Datacad we could see a renaissance of new users. (Sell the sizzle) I see videos on you tube that show some impressive 3D results with data cad, but I don't speak the language!

For example, Chief Architect has an impressive video showing how to do this. Can Datacad achieve the same results as CA?

I see on the forum talk about interchanging data with Sketchup, but I haven't found any documentation or videos demonstrating the workflow.

I'd like to know if there are some superstar Datacad 3D gurus out there that I can see their process. Are there?

Most of the videos are 3 years old and older and I am finding it hard to grasp what can be done in the latest release.

Thanks!

Hi Larry,

I know a few DataCAD users that are really good at 3D modeling: James Goodman, James Horecka, David Porter, Dana Smith and Dwight Brennforder off the top of my head.
Really isn't DataCAD LLC that should be creating the bells and whistles and providing the interface to BIM rather than the user?

The forum isn't what it used to be....do you have specific questions?

Hello Larry,

If you change to using DataCAD's smart parametric entities you'll automatically get your 2D to 3D as you design. Like any parametric software you'll need to invest time in expanding on the standard entities included to create your own database but it's well worth it with a huge productivity jump as well as having an 'active' 3D model as you progress from the schematic/concept stage through to construction documentation.
